First Friday, Saturday & First Sunday Public Apparition of Our Lady of Emmitsburg

July 1 - 3, 2005

Several weeks ago I received an email from a person whom I had only met once about 7 or 8 months ago at St. Joseph’s in Emmitsburg. His name was Greg P. He asked if I could recommend a place to stay in the Emmitsburg area because he would like to make a pilgrimage here. I sent him the information he requested and suggested that when he comes he should try to schedule it so that he is here for the 1st Sunday public apparition of Our Lady of Emmitsburg.

A few weeks after that I received another email from Greg saying that he would like to come and be present for Our Lady’s apparition on July 3rd and that he was planning on taking a Grey Hound bus from Washington, DC to Frederick, Maryland on Saturday July 2nd. He wanted to know if I could pick him up at the bus station at 12:55 PM. I replied back to Greg and told him that I would pick him up and that he could stay at our house.

Friday July 1st

When I left the house this morning to go to work I stopped at St. Joseph’s on the way to say a quick prayer. I looked at my watch as I walked up to the front of the church and the time was 6:33. I said a few prayers and left to go to work in Manassas. I drove to All Saint’s for mass and just as I arrived I noticed the CD counter flash 13. I glanced at my watch as I walked in the door and it said XX:XX:33.

I attended mass and Fr. Mendez was the priest. At the instant of the Consecration I felt the feeling of peace hit me. I glanced at my watch and it said XX:XX:33. Mass ended and I left. At the very instant I pulled out of the parking lot the peace hit me again and I noticed at that very instant the CD counter flashed 33.

I drove across the street to work and later in the day Frank K called and wanted to know if I was ready to go pray the rosary at All Saint’s. We drove across the street and prayed the rosary individually. I prayed both the Joyful and Glorious mysteries and when I finished the rosary the time was 12:33.

We drove back to work it was busy. I got off work later than usual and when I did I drove back to Emmitsburg and stopped at St. Joseph’s. When I arrived the 8 PM Holy Hour was just about to begin. I sat in the car for a few minutes debating if I was going to attend the holy hour or go home and come back later for First Friday all night adoration. I said a quick prayer and made the decision to attend the holy hour. At the very instant I turned the car off I noticed the CD counter flash 33 as I was getting out of the car I noticed my watch said XX:XX:13. I glanced at my watch as I walked in the church and it said XX:XX:33.

I took my seat and Fr. O’Malley was the priest. He exposed the Blessed Sacrament on the altar and a few prayers were said. After the prayers Fr. O’Malley talked about the children’s summer workshop that took place at St. Joseph’s and that the children studied about different apparitions of The Blessed Virgin Mary that have taken place around the world. He then suggested that we pray the rosary as a group. We prayed the Sorrowful mysteries and when we finished I glanced at my watch and it said XX:XX:33. I then drove home and when I pulled in my driveway the time on the dash was 9:13. The very instant the car came to a complete stop the CD counter flashed 13. I went in the house and relaxed for a few minutes before sitting back down at my computer and completing the June 12-15 paper and completed it at 12:13.

Saturday July 2nd

After completing the paper I drove back to St. Joseph’s for adoration despite the fact that I was a little tired at this point. I arrived at St. Joseph’s and looked at my watch as I walked in the church before the Blessed Sacrament and the time was 12:33. There were about 9 or 10 people there. I prayed the Joyful and Sorrowful mysteries of the rosary with the intentions being for Our Lady’s public apparition at the farm on Sunday. I completed the rosary and felt the peace. I glanced at my watch and the time was 1:13. I glanced at my watch as I walked out the door and it said XX:XX:33. I drove home and just as the car came to a complete stop the CD counter flashed 13.

I went straight to bed and when I got up S.C.C. and I drove to St. Mary’s for 8 AM mass and the First Saturday Lay Missionaries of Charity (LMC) meeting. After the homily Fr. M____ called me up to the front of the church for a special blessing because today I take over the leadership role as LINK for the local Emmitsburg/Fairfield LMC group. I was not expecting this. Later after returning to my pew after receiving Holy Communion I was suddenly struck with a strong feeling of peace. I glanced at my watch and the time was 8:33.

Mass ended and the LMC group remained in the church and began our monthly meeting with the Glorious mysteries of the rosary. After the rosary we moved to a class room for the rest of the meeting. Fr. M____ led the first segment and upon completion of his part it was handed over to me as he left. The time was 9:33.

My first meeting as the LMC LINK went pretty well I think. It made me feel good. People gave me a lot of support. The meeting ended and S.C.C. and I drove home. S.C.C. and C.R.C. then got ready and drove to "hometown" to visit family for the long July 4th weekend. I got ready and left to go pick up Greg P.

After S.C.C. and C.R.C. left I drove to Frederick, Maryland and had a little trouble finding the Grey Hound bus station. When I arrived I thought I was late because the bus was scheduled to arrived at 12:55 and it was now almost 1:30. I did not see Greg anywhere. A lady then told me the bus from Washington was running late and had not yet arrived. When the bus arrived it was almost 2 PM. Greg got off the bus and he thanked me for letting him come. We drove straight back to Emmitsburg and the first stop on Greg’s pilgrimage was St. Joseph’s. We arrived there and the time on the dash was 2:33.

We rode out to my house and I showed Greg his room. We then rode back into town to get something to eat at the Ott House before meeting up with Karen and Mick Major to carry the statue of Our Lady of Fatima in the annual Emmitsburg 4th of July parade. We do this every year.

After eating we met Karen, Mick and their daughter Catherine. Catherine decorated my truck with red, white and blue ribbons to carry the Armata Bianca children in the parade. Mick and I carried the statue and Dr. Joe F drove my truck with the children sitting on hay bales in the back. The parade was nice and people enjoyed it very much. Just as we got to the end of the parade route and it was over I felt the peace hit me. I glanced at my watch and the time was 6:33:13. We put the carrier in the back of my truck and when I got back in the odometer was 13.

Greg and I then rode back to my house and talked for a good while. Greg is from Soul South Korea and is a student at Catholic University. He is preparing to enter the seminary for the priesthood. We watched the Emmitsburg video, Unbridled Mercy and called it a night.

Sunday July 3rd

I slept late this morning and when I first woke up I looked over at the clock next to the bed and it was the last fraction of a second of 8:13. I remembered that it was 7 years ago today that I stopped at Emmitsburg for the very first time on my way to Gettysburg. Little did I know then what was to come. This was the day I knew I was doing everything wrong in my life and made the promise to God that I would get C.R.C. baptized.

Later in the morning Greg said he would like to visit the Grotto of Lourdes. I told Greg I would drive him there but had a short appointment with Wayne Warthen to get my hair cut. I started the truck to take Greg to the Grotto and it was the last fraction of a second of 10:33.

We drove to the Grotto and I dropped Greg off. I then rode to Wayne’s house which is just down the street from St. Joseph’s. When I arrived at St. Joseph’s the odometer was 13.3. I got my haircut and drove back out to the Grotto and met up with Greg again. We decided to pray the rosary together at the statue of our Lady of Fatima and when we finished I felt the peace and looked at my watch and the time was 1:13.

We then rode to pick up Ray Sanders at St. Joseph’s and I walked in to say a quick prayer before going to the public apparition of Our Lady of Emmitsburg. I glanced at my watch as I walked in the door and it said XX:XX:33. I said a quick prayer and looked at my watch as I walked out the door and the time was 1:33.

We then drove to St. Joseph’s in Taneytown for the 2 PM mass. The priest was Fr. Kieran Kavanaugh OCD who has written many books about St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila. He was also on the commission that resulted in the canonization of St. Edith Stine. He is also one of Gianna Sullivan’s spiritual advisors. I glanced at my watch as we walked in the church and it said XX:XX:33.

After mass many people rode out to Karen and Mick Major’s farm for the rosary and public apparition. When we arrived the time on the dash of my truck was 3:30. After a little while Dr. Michael Sullivan started the rosary and like always it was very beautiful. There was a very big crowd of people. The most I ever saw there. Our Lady appeared to Gianna during the 4th decade of the rosary and the apparition ended and the time was 4:13.

My friend Frank K was there with his wife Corrin and when everything was over they walked over to me to say good by. As they did this I suddenly felt the peace and thought about the sequence of events that led to them being here on such a regular basis. I looked at my watch and the time was 5:13. I then helped clean up a little and put things away before Greg and I left to drive Ray back to his house next to St. Joseph’s. We arrived back at St. Joseph’s and the time was 6:13.
